It is best for me to work from a good quality photo. Good lighting is very important. Natural light is preferred. Light by a window is wonderful. Photos should be taken from the pet's eye level.You may already have a photo that is perfect. Try to have a simple background. Good focus is helpful, so that I can see details. The best photos are up close and fills the frame.

If your pet is deceased, I can use an existing photo. Many of my paintings are of a loved pet that is gone now. A painting can be a loving memory of your special family member.
